Campaign promises aren’t exactly written in stone, but there are some pledges out there from Republican hopefuls that could have an impact on the securitization market. Governor Rick Perry wants to abolish three governmental agencies. Congressman Ron Paul (R - Texas) is dying to audit the Federal Reserve and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R - Minn.) wants to scrap Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
Mitt Romney says in his nearly-100 page plan for economic success that he would seek to repeal Dodd-Frank and replace it with “a streamlined regulatory framework.” Theoretically, a repeal of Dodd-Frank could erase bankers’ fears of Dodd-Frank mandates such as risk retention that are tipped to make securitization unfeasible.
